What is PCI Compliance?

PCI compliance basically means meeting the standards for the Payment Card Industry.
The rest of this overused acronym is (PCI) DSS … Data Security System. While it’s very important to meet these standards, some companies try to take advantage of uninformed merchants. They do this by charging large “PCI Compliance” fees and then do very little to actually help merchants to become compliant. One common complaint from merchants is that they need help to fill out the “Self  Attestation” form. If you find yourself in this predicament, call Current Merchant.

How do I become compliant?

Helping merchants become compliant is the reason Current Merchant was founded.
Become a Current Merchant today and exceed today’s PCI DSS standards. This will actually save you money in processing costs because it will reduce your risk of security breach.

Are chip readers really necessary?

Yes. Since October 2015, merchants should have the ability to read and process chip cards or EMV. This is true because liability has shifted to the merchant in case of fraud or stolen cards. If your store or restaurant does not have this ability, you will most likely lose any chargebacks when a customer disputes the charge. The trouble is, very few point-of-sale solutions are certified for EMV. To make matters even worse, some dishonest customers are targeting merchants that are not EMV compliant, and then disputing the charges after the goods were fraudulently acquired. The good news is that the software and hardware solutions from Current Merchant are fully EMV certified. Our EMV-chip card reading pin pads are fully integrated with our point-of-sale software solutions. See more of our specialized services for your restaurant, retail or grocery store.

What is EMV?

It basically refers to chip cards. EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard, and Visa, the three companies that originally created the standard.

Do restaurants need to accept EMV chip cards?

Put simply, yes. Merchants who fail to use EMV equipment will be held liable for any chargebacks. This could be costly. Contact Current Merchant today as you may be  eligible for free EMV equipment.

As a merchant, am I liable for stolen cards used at my location?

Yes, merchants are liable for stolen cards regardless of the type of transaction. Current Merchant can enable fraud-mitigating functions for you to prevent this  from occurring.

What if an employee sells liquor to a minor?

Selling liquor or tobacco to minors can be very costly and ultimately cost your business license. Undercover officers often test clerks to determine whether or not verification is obtained. We can enable  license scanning to eliminate the chance of this type of error.

How do I calculate liter tax on liquor?

Most taxes are based on a percentage of the price. However some states impose a tax based on the volume of liquor sold. Our system will calculate this tax rate on the volume or quantity.
